Coastal Flood Advisory issued October 1 at 8:43PM EDT until October 2 at 10:00AM EDT by NWS Newport/Morehead City NC* WHAT...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, up to one foot ofinundation above ground level expected in low- lying areas nearshorelines and tidal waterways. For the Beach Hazards Statement,dangerous rip currents.* WHERE...Hatteras Island.* WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, from 6 AM to 10 AM EDTWednesday. For the Beach Hazards Statement, from 8 AM EDTWednesday through Wednesday evening.* IMPACTS...Up to 1 foot of inundation above ground level ispossible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterwaysresulting in a low threat of property damage. Some roads and lowlying property including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homesadjacent to the waterfront will experience shallow flooding. Ripcurrents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore intodeeper water.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The most likely time for strong ripcurrents to occur is a couple hours either side of low tide,which will occur around 2:10 PM Wednesday.If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may beclosed. Do not drive around barricades or through water ofunknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-proneproperty.Life-threatening rip currents. If caught in a rip current, remaincalm. Swim in a direction following the shoreline. If tired,float or tread water until out of the rip current. If unable toescape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
