Lake Effect Snow Warning issued February 17 at 3:36PM EST until February 19 at 6:00AM EST by NWS Albany NY* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow. Additional accumulations 5 to 10inches. Total snow accumulations 8 to 16 inches. Winds gusting ashigh as 60 mph.* WHERE...Montgomery, Southern Fulton, and Herkimer Counties.* WHEN...Until 6 AM EST Wednesday.* IMPACTS...Travel will be difficult. Areas of blowing snow couldsignificantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions couldimpact the evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Strong windscould cause tree damage. Visibilities will lower below a quartermile at times with near whiteout conditions.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Strong winds along with the weight of snowand ice on trees will lead to to an increased risk of downed treesand power lines, resulting in power outages. Heavy lake effectsnow will continue through Tuesday with the potential for nearblizzard conditions at times. The strongest winds and greatestsnowfall will occur in southern Herkimer County into MontgomeryCounty.During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locallyheavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities canalso vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather,visibility, and road conditions.If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water inyour vehicle in case of an emergency.

For theCold Weather Advisory, from 11 PM this evening to 11 AM ESTTuesday.* IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Treelimbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Thedangerously cold wind chills as low as 25 below zero could causefrostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Strong winds along with the weight of snowand ice on trees will lead to to an increased risk of downed treesand power lines, resulting in power outages.Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for highprofile vehicles.
