Total snow accumulations 2to 3 feet in the most persistent lake snows, with the greatestaccumulations from the northern portion of the Tug Hill to thesouthern suburbs of the Watertown area and across the centerportion of Lewis county.* WHERE...Jefferson and Lewis Counties. The heaviest and mostimpactful snowfall is expected through Tuesday night.* WHEN...Until 7 AM EST Wednesday.* IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult to impossible with verypoor visibility and deep snow cover on roads. Some major roadwayssuch as Interstate 81 could temporarily close.During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locallyheavy snow with greatly reduced visibilities to dry conditions justa few miles away. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather,visibility, and road conditions.You should stay indoors until conditions improve. If you must gooutside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes will keep youwarmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin to reduce yourrisk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and a hat willkeep you from losing your body heat.
