Red Flag Warning issued September 30 at 3:30AM CDT until September 30 at 8:00PM CDT by NWS Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS PORTIONS OF WESTERNAND CENTRAL MINNESOTA MONDAY....Monday will see a dry cold front sweeping west to east acrossthe region, reaching western Minnesota by the early afternoonboth increasing winds and significantly lowering dewpoints.Minimum humidity values could reach the teens in spots, with lowto mid 20s across a large portion of western to central Minnesota.Dewpoints are expected to drop from near 50 ahead of the front tothe low to mid 30s behind the front. Meanwhile, highs will reachthe upper 70s to near 80. Winds will increase out of the northwestbehind the front with gusts of 25-30 mph possible, mainly duringthe late afternoon to evening in western Minnesota. Winds aregenerally expected to be weaker east of a line stretching from St.Cloud to Mankato due to the timing of the front, with a laterarrival time allowing for a gap between the lowest humidity andstrongest winds arriving after sunset. The Red Flag Warning coversthe area most likely to have ideal timing of the frontal passage,allowing for the strongest winds to sync up with the lowest humidity.The National Weather Service in Twin Cities/Chanhassen has issueda Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from 11 AM this morning to8 PM CDT this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer ineffect.* WIND...South shifting northwest 15-20 mph with gusts up to 30mph.* HUMIDITY...As low as 18 percent.* IMPACTS...any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.Outdoor burning is not recommended.A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditionsare either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination ofstrong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures cancontribute to extreme fire behavior.
