Red Flag Warning issued September 30 at 3:40AM CDT until September 30 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Duluth MN...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS PORTIONS OF CENTRALAND NORTH-CENTRAL MINNESOTA TODAY....Strong and gusty southerly winds are forecast today into thisevening ahead of an approaching cold front, turning westerly andnorthwesterly after the passage of the front. A dry airmassremains in place over the region and with daytime heating, willdrop relative humidity into the 20 to 30 percent range by latethis morning. Lower dewpoint air will follow the cold front andkeep RH values low behind the front. The combination of low RH,strong and gusty winds, and limited precipitation over the pastseveral weeks, will create critical fire weather conditions forportions of central and north-central Minnesota today and thisevening. RH values will improve this evening as the air near theground begins to cool around sunset.The National Weather Service in Duluth has issued a Red FlagWarning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effectfrom 10 AM this morning to 9 PM CDT this evening.* AFFECTED AREA...In Minnesota, North Itasca and South Itasca.This includes the communities of Grand Rapids, Bigfork, and CassLake.* WINDS...Southwest around 15 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 22 percent.* IMPACTS...This combination of wind and minimum RH could leadto the rapid spread of fires.A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditionsare either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination ofstrong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures cancontribute to extreme fire behavior.
