Ice Storm Warning issued January 5 at 1:47AM CST until January 6 at 6:00AM CST by NWS Paducah KY* WHAT...Significant icing expected. Total snow and sleetaccumulations up to two inches and ice accumulations between onequarter and one half of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.* WHERE...Portions of southern Illinois, western Kentucky, andsoutheast Missouri.* WHEN...Until 6 AM CST Monday.* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, willlikely become slick and hazardous. Significant ice accumulation onpower lines and tree limbs may cause widespread and long-lastingpower outages. Expect power outages and tree damage due to theice. Travel could be impossible.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...An arctic blast will arrive Monday and lastthrough most of the week. Wind chill values will drop into thesingle digits or below zero at times, which can be even moredangerous with any long duration power outages.Travel is strongly discouraged. If you must travel, keep an extraflashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.Prepare for possible power outages. Make sure your car iswinterized and in good working order.Do not touch downed lines and report any power outages to yourelectric company. Travel is highly discouraged due to slick roadwaysand the possibility of downed trees and power lines.
