Air Quality Alert issued December 31 at 11:02AM MST by NWS Phoenix AZThe Imperial County Air Pollution Control District has declared amandatory wood burning curtailment for residents within the Calexicoarea for Tuesday, December 31, 2024 and Wednesday, January 1, 2025.The declaration of a Mandatory curtailment, when forecast indicateelevated levels of fine particulate air pollution in the region, isissued to protect the public health. Smoke from wood burning cancause health problems. Breathing high levels of pollution from woodsmoke can cause breathing problems (including asthma attacks),worsened lung and heart disease symptoms, and may even increaseemergency room visits and hospitalizations.The Mandatory Curtailment rule prohibits the operation of any woodburning appliances during the curtailment period.
