Fire Weather Watch issued January 4 at 1:24PM PST until January 10 at 6:00PM PST by NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE TUESDAY MORNING THROUGHFRIDAY AFTERNOON FOR POTENTIAL STRONG/DAMAGING NORTH TO NORTHEASTWINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR MUCH OF LOS ANGELES ANDVENTURA COUNTIES......FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY NIGHT INTO WEDNESDAYFOR LA COUNTY COAST EXTENDING INTO PALOS VERDES, AND CATALINAISLAND DUE TO MODERATE TO STRONG NORTH TO NORTHEAST WINDS AND LOWRELATIVE HUMIDITY....While there is still some uncertainty in next week's wind event,the most likely outcome is for strong/damaging north to northeastwinds with an extended period of Red Flag conditions. While thelonger duration of strong winds is expected to be focused acrossLos Angeles and Ventura counties, there is a 20-30 percent chanceof shorter duration Red Flag conditions across portions of SantaBarbara and San Luis Obispo counties. Due to the potential fordamaging winds, there will be an increased risk for downed treesand powerlines, as well as power outages. There is also thepotential for moderate to strong north to northeast winds for theLA county coast (especially Hollywood Hills, Beverly Hills, andSepulveda Pass) extending into Palos Verdes and Catalina IslandTuesday night into Wednesday, resulting in the issuance of a FireWeather Watch for these areas.* WINDS...Most Likely Outcome-Strong north to northeast windevent Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday night with sustainedwinds of 35 to 50 mph and damaging wind gusts of 55 to 80 mphor greater. Strongest winds likely in the mountains,foothills, and valleys. Moderate north to northeast winds willlikely persist Thursday into Friday.* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Most Likely Outcome-Humidities likelyfalling to between 20 and 30 percent in many areas by early tomid Tuesday afternoon, then widespread 15 percent or lesspotentially Tuesday night into Friday. There is also a chance oflocalized single digit humidities by Wednesday.* IMPACTS...If fire ignition occurs, conditions are favorablefor rapid fire spread and extreme fire behavior, includinglong range spotting, which would threaten life and property.There will be the potential for downed trees and powerlines,as well as power outages.* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...While the most likely outcome is for astrong/damaging north to northeast wind event (70% chance),there is still a 30% chance of a moderate event.A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditionsare likely to occur in the coming days.
