For the Cold Weather Advisory, until 11 AM EST /10 AMCST/ this morning. For the Extreme Cold Warning, from 1 AM EST/midnight CST/ to 10 AM EST /9 AM CST/ Wednesday.* IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skinis exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezingtemperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. Frost and freezeconditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation andpossibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.Wear protective clothing such as a hat, face mask and heavy glovesor mittens if you have plans to be outdoors.To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipesthey should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Thosethat have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and coverabove-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.Drain in-ground sprinkler systems and cover above ground pipes.Keep pets indoors as much as possible.Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, andunfrozen water.Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensureportable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grillsinside.Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.Use caution while traveling outside. Total snowaccumulations between 2 and 4 inches.* WHERE...Portions of southeast Alabama, Panhandle Florida, andsouthwest Georgia.* WHEN...From 10 AM EST /9 AM CST/ this morning to 7 AM EST /6 AMCST/ Wednesday.* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, willlikely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery roadconditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesdayevening and Wednesday morning commutes.If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water inyour vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions forthe state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 5 1 1.Persons are urged to stay indoors until conditions improve. If youmust go outside, dress in layers. Several layers of clothes willkeep you warmer than a single heavy coat. Cover exposed skin toreduce your risk of frostbite or hypothermia. Gloves, a scarf, and ahat will keep you from losing your body heat.Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutelynecessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for suddenchanges in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and themotorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach yourdestination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especiallycautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car iswinterized and in good working order.Do not touch downed lines and report any power outages to yourelectric company. Travel is highly discouraged due to slick roadwaysand the possibility of downed trees and power lines.
