winter storm watch in effectA winter storm is poised to affect eastern Saskatchewan and western Manitoba this week.A strong low pressure system approaching from the south will bring rain, freezing rain, snow and strong winds to much of eastern Saskatchewan and western Manitoba beginning Monday evening and continuing Tuesday through Wednesday. Precipitation in many areas will start out as rain or freezing rain, then transition to snow as colder air gets wrapped into the system. Very strong northwest winds are expected to develop as the system intensifies, with gusts to 80 km/h resulting in very poor visibility in snow and blowing snow. Blizzard conditions are possible in some areas. Widespread snowfall accumulations of 15 to 30 cm are likely with this system... possibly more over the higher terrain of western Manitoba and eastern Saskatchewan.Expect warnings to be issued as this event draws nearer. In the wake of this system a much colder Arctic airmass will be in place, with daytime highs in the -5 to -10 range.###Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
