snow squall watch in effectMulti-day lake effect snow squall event to begin Thursday evening.Hazards:Locally heavy snowfall with accumulations possibly exceeding 30 cm by Friday night.Peak snowfall rates of 5 to 10 cm per hour.Very poor visibility in bursts of heavy snow and local blowing snow.Additional locally heavy snowfall through the weekend and into early next week.Timing:Beginning Thursday evening and continuing through the weekend.Discussion:Lake effect snow off Lake Huron and Georgian Bay is forecast to strengthen Thursday evening into Friday morning, and will persist through the weekend and into early next week. As is common with lake effect snow, snowfall amounts will be highly variable. Some areas may receive well in excess of 50 cm by the end of the weekend.Road closures are possible this weekend especially over areas that receive multiple lake effect bands.###Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common.
