DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 to 65 km/h with peak gusts 90 km/h may develop about K'gari today. The risk of damaging winds is dependent on the path of Tropical Cyclone Alfred, and will remain until the system begins to shift sufficiently away to the southeast. The risk may persist into this afternoon. A separate Coastal Hazard Warning is current for the Wide Bay and Southeast Coast of Queensland. Water levels on the high tide could exceed the highest tide of the year by around half a metre on Sunday morning between Seventeen Seventy to Burnett Heads and Sandy Cape to Coolangatta. This could lead to minor flooding of the foreshore and coastal erosion. Damaging surf conditions which may lead to significant beach erosion are likely between Sandy Cape and Maroochydore, extending south to Caloundra and Bribie Island during the day. Damaging surf conditions are also likely to continue on Monday between Sandy Cape and Coolangatta, and may also continue throughout most of next week depending on the movement of TC Alfred.
